The Soft Pack
Tired of the new-wave explosion in their hometown of San Diego, The Soft Pack’s Matt Lamkin and Matty McLoughlin got their begin after deciding to revive old-school grunge rock. Later joined by Dave Lantzman and Brian Hill, the group found a knack for writing easy and catchy tunes that hint at the early New York underground and subtle ’60s California surf-rock.
After changing its name from The Muslims to The Soft Pack, the group thrust itself into the public eye. Hyped for its Strokes-like rhythms, growly vocals and confident live shows, The Soft Pack released several EPs and toured across the U.K. and North America, opening for groups such as The Breeders, The Last Shadow Puppets, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and Friendly Fires. The Soft Pack’s self-titled debut album came together with the help of producer Eli Janney, and was released in early February. The band is supporting the album with an extensive tour that includes dates with the popular French band Phoenix.
