Richard Starkey, better known as the legendary Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, has been changing pop and rock music for nearly 50 years. Starr joined The Beatles in 1962, and his reliable sense of rhythm was only a part of his contribution to the band. As the writer of pop hits such as “Octopus’s Garden” and singer of songs like “Yellow Submarine,” Starr was no stranger to the world of singing and songwriting.
After The Beatles split in 1970, Starr launched a solo career with the release of Sentimental Journey. Now, at 70, he’s as active as ever. Starr just released Y Not, the album he says best represents his personality.
