April Showers For Those Who Don’t Like Getting Wet

I do not know how many Slovenian a cappella jazz choirs can do this, but if you want to feel like you are out in an April thunder burst, just close your eyes and listen and every so often, sneak a glance at these people. It’s so easy and so astonishing.

They call themselves Perpetuum Jazzile, and this is their version of “Africa” — no instruments, only hands, snaps and I think feet for thunder. “Africa” was first performed by an 80′s rock band called Toto and this version, or something like it, spent a short spell as song hit #1 on the Billboard charts in February 1983. Toto still tours, but mostly in Europe and this version comes from a Vokal Xtravaganza concert in 2008 in Slovenia.

For those of you who have a tiny trouble locating Slovenia, it’s smooshed in between Austria and Croatia and as I write this, according to Accuweather, in Ljubljana, the capital, it’s partly cloudy with chance of showers tomorrow.
